Here Comes the Sun

Hello everybody! I had a wonderful and SUNNY weekend in Cadiz, Spain. Cadiz is a beautiful beach town in Andalucia, the same province as Granada. This trip was organized by my study abroad program, which was great because I literally didn't have to plan a thing!

We left Granada Friday afternoon and arrived in Cadiz around 8 pm. We checked into our hotel...to our surprise, API had chosen a four-star hotel right on the beach for us to stay in for the weekend. After a semester of hostels and pretty non-luxurious accommodations, we were absolutely thrilled. Every semester, API puts on a farewell dinner for all of the students. Our dinner took place in Cadiz. We had a very small amount of time to change before we left our hotel, so we threw on some nice clothes and headed to the restaurant. It was so fun to travel with my friends from Granada! It had been a long time since we had been on a trip together, and we really have a good time when we travel. After our glorious dinner Friday night, we returned to our hotel and sat on the beach for a little bit. We met some hilarious Spanish boys who asked us if we were friends with Eminem...of course we said yes!

Saturday was our designated beach day. We had an amazing breakfast at our hotel and then headed out to the beach for the remainder of the day. It was a little bit chilly and cloudy, but we still managed to get some sun and even get in the ocean a little bit! That night we ventured into the city for dinner and found an adorable place with tables outside. In addition to delicious seafood, this place had the strongest mixed drinks I have ever tasted in my life. After stuffing our faces, we headed back to the hotel via a nice long walk along the beach. Cadiz was seriously like a fairy tale--everything was absolutely beautiful and there was ocean everywhere!! We spent that night in our hotel celebrating my friend Haley's 21st birthday, followed by a late-night walk on the beach. Yeah...we spent a lot of time in the sand! It was impossible to resist!

Sunday we left Cadiz around 3pm. We spent most of the morning, you guessed it, on the beach. The weather was amazing, and there were tons of people out on the beach. It reminded me of Folly Beach in Charleston on a nice weekend day! We totally caved and got McDonald's for lunch (cheeseburger in paradise?), which was delicious. There is sometimes nothing better than a taste of home in a foreign country! On our way back to Granada, we stopped and hike through an area called El Torcal. This area is full of limestone rocks from the Jurassic Age. We really felt like we were walking through that animated movie "A Land Before Time". It was a fun hike, but we were all glad to get back to our houses in Granada to shower! Sorry that I don't have much more to say about Cadiz...laying on the beach doesn't make for a great blog entry!!

Amazingly, I am coming up on my last trip of the semester. I'll be leaving on Thursday to spend the weekend in Paris celebrating Hunter's 21st birthday. I'll come back to a lot of studying and packing! I cannot believe that I only have 15 days left in Europe...but all of those feelings will have to come in another entry!
Love and miss you all!!
